Corn Plants
Corn Plants is an ongoing series of linocut prints based on photos I took of corn plants in my own home garden. Seeing the stages of development from small and grass-like to complex and arching to drying and cracking is something I've enjoyed over the last couple seasons. The combination of chaotic arrangements and highly structured forms fascinates me. As well, I'm enraptured by the mixture of soft curves, rich greens, deep shadows, and bright sunlight coming through the leaves.
Technically, most of this print series is made up of reduction linocut prints. The process has the benefit of great layer registration, but limits the number of prints made. While most of my prints are open editions, the destructive nature of this process makes them a bit more precious than usual.
