Linoleum block relief printing (a.k.a. linocut) is my primary fine art medium. I love drawing and the carving required in linocut is a natural extension. It's a simple medium, in ways, that lends itself well to bold, graphic designs.
I work best when I have creative limitations; I find infinity in the finite. Relief printmaking has its limitations, and I love pushing those limits in terms of detail, softness, and tonality.
Recently I've been working on a series of reduction linocut prints of corn plants. While most of my prints are open edition, reduction prints can only be limited edition because the process destroys the block with each printed layer.
I gravitate towards high contrast (e.g. black and white), so working in color and considering how colors layer is an interesting challenge. I'm only beginning to scratch the surface.
